Name:
Luce Fulmine
Age:
21
Gender:
Female
Profession:
Trainer; Former breeder.
Alignment:
Civilian.
Appearance:
After having one look at Luce, a person may assume that she was physically or mentally ill. There's nothing particularly odd about her figure; She isn't 'skinny', she isn't 'plump', but rather settles somewhere in between. A comfortable average all around, her height being 5'5". Instead, it's the careless way she holds herself; Her clothes are several sizes too large, making her look much thinner than she already is, and stressing the already prominent fact that she is very slightly 'endowed'. Her sleeves hang far below her hands, and the hem around the neck falls off her shoulders, revealing (usually clashing) straps of whatever camisole or bra she may be wearing that day. Pants, as well, are baggy and drag on the ground as she walks, tearing and dirtying the bottoms. They're held up only by the belt on which she carries her pokeballs.
In contrast to this, her hair is surprisingly well taken care of. From a distance, it would be difficult to see all of the different layers that are cut into it. There's no real depth to the color; It's so black that it's practically blue, so seeing any real definition in the body of it would be difficult, though the choppy ends are more than visible. In the front, her bangs that would normally fall just past her shoulders are pushed to the left of her face behind her ear, allowing one to see her gray-blue eyes. Looking past that, she wears a single, amethyst earring, but it's irrelevant and barely noticeable. In the back, if falls below her shoulder blades, at it's longer parts, but doesn't quite reach the curve of her lower back. It is always left down. Always.
Personality:
I'd say that Luce has an air that isn't easily recognized, but that would be a lie. It would be more appropriate to say that she doesn't have much of an 'air' at all. She has always blended into the background, preferring to stay quiet and observe interactions from a distance. She isn't unapproachable, rather she goes unnoticed the majority of the time. This is how she likes it. Though she isn't much of a talker, she does listen to basically everything, thoroughly observing her surroundings. Though, often times she doesn't observe in the way that would be expected. She's useless in work environments; Rather than participating in the discussion or listening to directions, she would be trying to find pictures in the water stains on the ceiling panels. Depending on how aware she was, the question of why there were water stains on the ceiling may or may not cross her mind.
She's not dumb, though, just tends to zone out. She approaches difficult situations with a calm attitude, seeking a solution that's both logical, and doesn't have a negative affect on herself or those around her. Though, such a conclusion can't always be reached. She was known in her home town for frequently backing down from things --- If a desired outcome couldn't be reached, she wouldn't participate. Whether or not she has self-confidence is debatable, but if she's bitten off more than she can chew, she'll walk away and leave it to someone more capable instead of causing herself problems. If that means that someone else will have to take on her burden, so be it. Sucks for them. The guilt doesn't last, so long as she didn't know the person getting the short end of the stick.
It's not that she wants to be a burden, but she values her ass and will save it at all costs. This is one of the prime reasons she prefers to travel alone, if she had friends around she wouldn't want to choose between their well-being or hers. That and the fact she isn't very social to begin with. Her pokemon are more than enough, and she does care for them greatly, whether other people can see it or not. Her emotions can only really be judged by the wideness of her eyes and the occasional smile.
Biography:
'The whismur used to scream when I entered the cave. I guess they're used to me now.'
Twenty-one years ago, Luce was born in Verdanturf town, to Ada and Ciro Fulmine. It was an easy place to grow up; The town was fairly remote, out of the way. Most people wouldn't give it a second thought if it weren't for the Contest Tent, and the mentions of the infamous Rusturf cave connecting it to route 116. Luce spent the first several years of her life standing at the back, watching the pokemon contests take place. Though she wanted to, she was always too intimidated to speak to any of the people there, and the only ones that really ever got full sentences out of her were her parents. As a child, and not having pokemon of her own, it was an obvious rule that she wasn't allowed to leave town. It was even more enforced that she wasn't, under any circumstance, to enter the Rusturf cave. Her young mind was too inexperienced to determine just how dangerous it was; In her eyes, her parents were just being silly.
The first few times she entered the cave, the large quantities of whismur that inhabited it began to shriek in a way that made her ears split. Needless to say, with the large amount of them, the entire town was aware that something was going on, and her parents were alerted of just where their 'missing' daughter was. She didn't enter the cave again for a long time after that, and the next time she did, the result was the same. This trial and error lasted a long time, before she could gradually work her way into the cave without receiving any negative reactions. She wasn't sure why she was so compelled, but they were just so different from her. So interesting. And even though they didn't interact with her, as she just sat in a corner and observed, she had a relationship with them that she had never had with a human before. To this day, whismur is still her favorite pokemon.
'I've always been closer to pokemon, I suppose.'
When she turned ten, she wasn't allowed to leave the village, if we're being literal, but she did accompany her mother and father to the daycare center when they decided to take the short trip. It gave her a small view of the outside world she was so curious about, and got to see even more rare and interesting pokemon in the process. People from all sorts of towns came here, because according to her mother, it was the only one in the entire region. As her curiosity grew, she would persuade her parents to bring her back, and apparently, the old couple sensed her enthusiasm. They offered to let her stay there and help a few nights a week, but she was limited to feeding time and observing from a distance. Either way, she was obviously more content than she was at home, and gradually, her hours grew.
At around fifteen, she got a full time job there helping out. She was expressly in charge of taking care of the eggs that were left there, offering them to passersby, trainers that would want to take care of them. Even though she knew that the daycare couldn't take care of all of them, she still felt a slight bit of separation anxiety when handing them away. It was worth it, though, because the trainers would be much more capable than she would. They'd get to see the world, whereas she would be in this town, working for this daycare center until she expired. Or, she thought that until the daycare woman gave her an egg of her own.
'It makes sense, doesn't it?' She asked, 'You've only gotten close to the pokemon after all. Here's one that you won't have to let go of.'
So, she did as she was told. Still not able to leave the town, it took a particularly long time to hatch the egg. All of her neighbors thought she was odd, running from the daycare center, back into Verdanturf and up to the blockade of the Rusturf cave, then turning around and doing it again. She kept at it until she was out of breath.
'There's really no progress to be made here...'
After running her path multitudes of times, the egg began moving inside, which was the last bit of determination she needed. Her parents seemed quite enthused for her, and insisted spending more time around her, because her mood was brighter than it had ever been. And when it finally hatched, she was ecstatic. It was a pokemon that she had never seen before, but in asking the daycare woman, it was apparently called a Seel. She felt no need to name it, though. Nicknames and things weren't necessary.
She battled it with some of the trainers whose eggs had just hatched as well, in an attempt to gain some experience. It wasn't exactly smooth sailing; They had their wins and losses, and even when they did get experience, battling the freshly hatched pokemon resulted in learning barely anything. Doing the same thing over and over, Luce struggled with the fact for a while that no progress would come from her staying in this town. This was the first time she had been truly motivated, but her never-dying curiosity of what waited outside the area was matched by fear. She had never been farther than the daycare center, after all. Rolling out a map, she and Seel attempted to decide on a destination, but the only conclusion that they came to was that they'd go where the road took them.
'It's not even really about the destination, is it?'
The world was a lot different than she thought it would be, and things got more difficult as she went along. She took the path that was out of the way, both to avoid conflict with other trainers, and to make it so that she wasn't where the most gatherings would be. Along the way, Luce almost stopped caring about the training completely. They enjoyed the company of one-another, so whether or not they gained experience didn't really matter at that point. After all, wherever they wound up, the most memorable thing would be the journey, wouldn't it?
She remained idle for the majority of the time, stopping to rest in the towns she passed, even settling down for several months in Lilycove before setting off for Sinnoh, though her stay in Sinnoh was fairly brief. She docked at Canalave and stayed there for a while before checking out route 218. Not having learned surf, though, she didn't get very far, and the wild pokemon in the grass were the strongest she had encountered. Returning to Canalave, the talk of the town was about the war settling down in the new region. She listened around a bit, and the name wasn't familiar; She had heard of Kanto, and Johto, and she was born in Hoenn, but this Altairen wasn't one she had heard of. And rather than going back to Hoenn, she stayed in Canalave for a few months; If she was going to have a break, she may as well have it now. Seel loved having the water nearby, and she herself enjoyed time in the library. She took the time to reluctantly write a few letters to her mother and father before sating her curiosity of this warring region.
'This region doesn't seem like the others.'
The ship docked and she was already a bit put off. Having her passport and trainer card checked seemed more intimidating than usual, and though the town of New Port seemed small it carried a noticeably different air than Sinnoh and Hoenn. As of now, she's arrived at Central, has gotten registered and is exploring her surroundings.
