Varheit keeps his pokeballs in a well made suitcase with a combination lock on it for the sake of keeping them safe, which to many would make him seem paranoid, however he's lost pokemon before for not being careful enough and has learned from the experience
As for his appearance Varheit is an older man, just beginning to show crow's feet around the eye--but due to his military background hasn't let himself go and is still quite muscular although he has a relatively wiry frame. He has short black hair that's in the early stages of graying and a well trimmed mustache. Identifying physical marks include a tattoo acquired in his days as a special forces member on his left arm which is usually obscured by his choice of clothing, a scar above his left eye acquired during a training accident involving a crazed Scyther and the numerous burns and bullet wounds on his body acquired during his escape (see biography for details).
Varheit tends to dress formally in a black velvet long coat with a tie and white undershirt, black slacks, and a black pair of dress shoes; also tends to carry a long black steel cane with an ivory handle, and wears a pair of white silk gloves and wears a monocle.
Personality: Varheit seems somewhat dour at first, a bit stiff, but that's simply a side effect of his military training and his current attempts to infiltrate high society for intelligence purposes showing through, on the inside he's actually quite passionate and has a kind hearted side not many see until they get to know him. In combat Varheit has a tendency to put on the appearance of a dog straining at it's leash, in the military he used to fight alongside his pokemon with a long knife and later a two handed sword, earning him the nickname "the black knight of the battlefield" so he finds it hard to sit still while his comrades do the fighting.
Those who are allowed into his inner circle of friends eventually learn that Varheit actually has a fun loving side despite his calm and collected exterior and in a better time and place would be a bit of a party animal, but the scars of the past and his own goals have left a burning rage in his heart and a shadow over even the brightest days.
Biography: Varheit had lived in the Altairen region with his parents early in life and had always had a fascination with rare and powerful pokemon, particularly psychic and fire types, in his youth he traveled abroad to the Johto region when he came of age to go on an adventure and acquired a number of pokemon that he trained himself in the hopes that he would someday be able to use them in defense of his country when he returned.
At the age of eighteen he enlisted with the Altairen military forces and distinguished himself across a number of fields of expertise in both combat and intelligence operations, and was eventually granted the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Altairen special forces, where he and his pokemon carried out a number of missions ranging from espionage operations to hit and run missions carried out on the back of his Charizard.
However his military successes were not to last long. At the age of 25 a new group within the military rose to power, one that was suspicious at best and was believed to have slain a number of powerful pokemon even before becoming a faction within the military, The Dragon slayers. Sickened by the Dragon Slayers and their unethical behavior Varheit felt there was no choice but to leave the service, but before he could make his escape proper disaster struck.
In the early days of spring in the year he had decided to leave the special forces once and for all he was confronted, having gathered around him many sympathetic members of his corps to make good their escape together he had also gotten the attention of one who would betray him, a man by the name of Arnold Schreiber. He had feigned interest in their plan to escape and gone along with the ruse long enough that the day was fast approaching that they would leave the military forever and dissapear. But although dissapear they would it was not as they had planned, in the middle of the night the dragon slayers launched a surprise attack on their barracks and all of those who had planned to leave in the following week were killed, all save Varheit, who although badly wounded managed to escape and hide in the nearby forest.
Since that day Varheit has been planning his revenge, gathering resources and making contacts among other trainers who object to the military's strict policies and share his passion for combat. After his escape he had moved to central and rebuilt his life, all the while fostering his dream of revenge, they had taken his pokemon, and they had taken his old life, but they could never take his revenge from him.
