Long ago, Altairen was a land of peace and prosperity. People and Pokemon lived in harmony. It all sounds wonderful, doesn't it? Well, the problem came to be when the humans opened communication with the outside world. Trade and commerce came, and Altairens realized that the local Pokemon were extremely rare and hard to find in other lands.
A guild was formed to allow the local humans to challenge the rare and powerful Pokemon. At first, the idea appealed to many locals and outlanders. Gathering under the banner of the Dragon Slayers, people began to travel all over the lands of Altairen searching out the Pokemon and challenging them.
However, the true nature of the guild quickly showed itself as the Pokemon of the lands began to disappear. The corpses of many Pokemon were found, and those that weren't slain were absorbed into the guild. As the years passed and warfare with the neighboring country of Vizath. Soldiers began to implement the use of Pokemon for their battles.
Over the years, the Dragon Slayers worked their way into the military, hiding their extremist agenda as the military was forced to take any and all willing defenders. However, their plan to use the Dragon Slayers against their enemies backfired as the guild began to gain in rank and take subtle control over the ranks.
Fifteen years since the Dragon Slayers were taken into the military, Vizath and Altairen have come to a reluctant truce. However, the military retains hold on the lands as they keep an eye on their neighbor. Only when true peace returns will the military relax its hold on the people and their lands.
Until then, the military, heavily influenced by the presence of the Dragon Slayers, are a constant part of every day life for the people of Altairen. Any and all Pokemon trainers of age are encouraged to sign up, whether or not they were born locally.
To make matters worse, there are rumors of an underground guild growing with the intentions of overthrowing the military to take control of the lands for themselves. Unseen and unknown, yet it is rumored that their methods are far more crude and destructive than even the rash Dragon Slayers.

There are multiple routes you can take in Altairen. Citizens, also known as "regular" trainers, take part in the daily lives of Altairen. Those who wish to enlist in the military may find their application accepted at Central, located in the very heart of Altairen. Those who wish to find the underground guild, if they look hard enough, may just find themselves pulled into a darkness beyond their own imagining.
Newcomers are always welcome into Altairen. A port is located in the northernmost district of the lands with a train station set up to take trainers from other lands directly into Central to get their passes evaluated and accepted. Occasionally a person's passport may be denied and they may be deported, but even outsiders are welcome into the military.
What will you do and who will you be in this age of conflict?
