It was his first day off since he had become an officer and he was ready to make the most of it. Not by staying home and reading a book or goofing around. No, he wanted to prepare for the upcoming tournament. A chance to prove himself to his superiors and everyone else. A fine way to give himself the edge he would need for a speedy promotion. According to the flyers that he had seen around town the tournament would be limited to three pokemon, no higher than level fifteen. That meant he not only had to train up his pokemon, but capture some more.
It was because today was to be a day of preparation that he would not be wearing his normal military uniform. His uniform would stay neatly folded in his dresser as today he donned a simple black T shirt and jeans, a light green jacket worn over his shirt to keep the chill out. Around his neck he kept his silver dog tags, worn over his shirt which would identify him to anyone that looked as a member of the Military, even though it wasn't as obvious without the uniform on. And of course around his waist was his trainer belt with his pokeballs and pokedex.
In the spirit of not causing trouble inside the area of the city Mathew was hunting wild pokemon, or a willing trainer just outside the town. Away from the majority of homes and businesses, where he would be able to battle without having to worry about causing collateral damage to the surrounding area.
"Alright Mathew. Let's make today count." He said to himself.

As you move around the outskirts of town, training on your mind your never notice the girl moving toward you. Tall and thin, her hair thick and green, pulled high on her head. Her own mind preoccupied with the tournament and the training that needed to be done.
The two of you most likely would have went unnoticed to the other if not for the Beautifly, flying softly after the green haired girl. It let out a loud cry as it spotted you and the girl looked up sharply, her red eyes narrowing.
But she relaxes when she notices it is only a citizen (or what she thinks is one) and smiles softly, "hey there, I'm Bobby Tent. What's your name stranger?"

Mathew's thoughts had kept him from notincing the girl in front of him. The sound of her voice snapping his attention back to the world around him. He took note of the girl in front of him, noting the way she held herself and how she dressed. The pokemon behind her didn't escape his notice either. He would smile at the girl warmly seeing no reason to be rude.
"I'm Mathew, Mathew Amtrum." He said. Motioning to the pokemon behind the girl he would speak. "Are you a pokemon trainer?" he asked waiting for her reply. "If so are you planning on entering the tornament? Because I would love to have a practice match if you are." He said reaching down to his belt where his pokeballs were, though waiting for her reply before he would pull one out.

"I am a trainer, one of the best," she boasted with a smirk. Holding out her hand, the beautifly landed gracefully. "And yeah, I am entering the tournament... I hope your not though. No offense but you don't look like much."
The beautifly snickered evilly.
"If you want to battle sure, but don't expect to win!" Turning to her beautiful she motioned toward Mathew, "ready for this girl?"
"Beautifly!"
"I'll let you start it off, just to be nice!"

Mathew wasn't surprised to see that she had chosen the Beautiful that was flying behind him. Reaching back behind his pokeballs he pulled out his pokedex and examined it. It was a bug and a flying type. And that meant it had a double weakness against Mathew's Geodude. Smiling to himself he put his pokedex away before reaching for Geodude's pokeball. Pressing the button on the bottom that would enlarge it he then threw it forward.
"Geodude go!" He called out as the red energy from the pokeball started to form in to his first pokemon.
"Alright Geodude lets do this! Start off with a Stone Edge attack. Follow it up with a tackle before doing another Stone Edge!" He called out excited to see how well his Geodude did.

Geodude's stone edge attack hits critical and the Beautifly is throw to the ground. It seems for the moment that it is already out of the fight, but it stirs and finally pushes itself back up into the air. With a smirk Bobby flicks her wrist, "tackle."
The bug/flying pokemon launches it's tackle attack, one that was easily dodged. Being so close now, Geodude takes this opportunity to hit his opponent with a tackle attack of his own. It hits its mark and again the pokemon is thrown aside.
Watching her pokemon right itself she tilted her head, smirk still in place. "Absorb."
At the same time, Geodude launches its stone edge attack once again, but Beautifly dodges it quickly and it's absorb hits the mark draining some of Geodudes energy.
